Is It Time for Companion Care?

Companion Care is often the gentlest first step into professional support.

  • Increasing isolation or fewer visitors than before
  • Skipped meals or an emptier-than-usual fridge
  • Missed appointments or errands going undone
  • You've noticed withdrawal or low mood
  • Your loved one is safe alone but lonely
  • Family lives too far away to visit often
A Typical Visit

What Companion Care Looks Like

Companion care is about company and help with everyday things. A visit might start with coffee and conversation, then a simple lunch made together. The caregiver keeps up light housekeeping, like dishes, laundry, and tidying, so the home stays comfortable and safe.

In the afternoon, there may be an errand to run, a walk around the block, a card game, or a phone call with family. The goal is simple: fewer lonely hours, a steady friendly face, and a home that feels lived in. How often the caregiver visits, and for how long, is set in your loved one’s care plan.

For families who live far away, companion care adds a trusted set of eyes. The caregiver notices changes in mood, appetite, or the home and lets our care team know, so small concerns are handled early.

How Care Begins

Getting Started with Companion Care

Getting started takes one conversation. Here’s what happens next.

  1. Tell us about your loved one

Call your local office or request a free care assessment. Tell us about their interests, their routine, and what’s been hard to keep up with.

  2. Free in-home assessment

A care coordinator visits and writes a personalized care plan around companionship, meals, light housekeeping, and errands.

  3. A good match

We match a carefully selected caregiver on personality, interests, and language, because companionship works best when the two get along.

  4. Care starts, and we stay close

Paying privately? We can usually begin care within 48 hours, or later if you’d like to meet your caregiver first. Once care begins, you’ll have a number you can call any time, day or night.

Questions Families Ask

Companion Care Questions, Answered

What does a companion care visit include?

Conversation and company, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and outside home assistance such as errands. Each visit follows your loved one’s personalized care plan, so time goes to what matters most to them.

Can the caregiver speak my parent’s language?

Often, yes. Our caregivers and office staff speak Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Spanish, Albanian, Macedonian, Serbian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, and Lithuanian, and we consider language when we choose a caregiver.

Is companion care right if my parent is still fairly independent?

It often is. Companion care suits seniors who manage most things on their own but are lonely, find housework harder, or would benefit from someone checking in. If needs change, the care plan can grow to include personal care.

How does companion care help with loneliness?

Regular visits give your loved one something to look forward to: conversation, shared meals, and someone who notices how they’re doing. Over time, the caregiver becomes a familiar friendly face, and your family hears how things are going.

Does companion care include help with bathing or dressing?

Companion care focuses on company, meals, light housekeeping, and errands. If your loved one also needs hands-on help with bathing, dressing, or grooming, we can add Personal Care to the plan, so the same familiar caregiver can help with both.
