Respite Care: Relief for Family Caregivers
Caring for a loved one is exhausting work. Respite Care gives you room to rest, travel, or simply breathe while a carefully selected caregiver steps in.

Short-Term Relief, Full-Strength Care
From a single afternoon to a few weeks, Respite Care follows the routine your loved one already knows.
Is It Time for Respite Care?
Respite isn't a last resort. It's often what helps family caregivers keep going.
- You're running on empty and know it
- Upcoming travel, surgery, or a family event
- You want to test professional care before committing further
- Other family members need your attention too
- You haven't had a real break in months
- Guilt is stopping you from asking for help
What a Respite Stay Looks Like
Respite Care works around your plans. Before you leave, we learn your loved one’s routine: when they wake, what they like to eat, when medication reminders are due, and what helps on a hard day. The caregiver then follows that routine, so your loved one has the day they’re used to, with a new friendly face.
You might book a single afternoon for an appointment, a weekend to rest, or a few weeks while you travel or recover from surgery. When you come back, the caregiver tells you how things went, and you return to a home that’s been looked after.
It also helps to plan ahead. Booking a few hours each week or month puts a break on the calendar before you need it, and keeps the same caregiver familiar to your loved one.

Respite Care Questions, Answered
How short or long can respite care be?
From a single afternoon to a few weeks. The caregiver follows the routine your loved one already knows, so a short stay feels familiar and a longer one stays steady.
Can respite care become regular care later?
Yes. Some families use respite care to try professional care before committing further. If you’d like to continue, we update the care plan and keep the same caregiver whenever possible.
Is respite care covered by insurance?
Respite Care is private pay, with short-term packages and no long-term contract required. Your long-term care insurance policy may include a respite benefit, and we’ll check it with you.
What should we prepare before respite care starts?
A short list of daily routines, favorite meals, emergency contacts, and any instructions from your loved one’s doctor is a good start. Your care coordinator will go through it with you during the free care assessment, so nothing important is missed.
Can we use respite care while I’m still at home?
Yes. Respite doesn’t require you to leave town. You can use it for a few hours a week to work, run errands, see friends, or simply rest, knowing your loved one is in good hands.
